Northern Lincoln County Corridors Study

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) is studying SD11 and SD115 in northern Lincoln County to identify existing and future infrastructure needs. The study will make recommendations for the programming of future projects, such as pavement repair, widening, and intersection improvements.

SD11

The SD11 study corridor extends from US 18 to the planned South Veterans Parkway along the southern edge of Sioux Falls. The existing typical section consists of two, 12-foot lanes and 6-foot paved shoulders. The vertical profile of the roadway is flat with some rolling terrain. There are three BNSF at-grade railroad crossings along the corridor. Current traffic volumes range from approximately 2,885 vehicles per day (VPD) at the south end to 7,500 VPD at the north. By 2050, these are anticipated to increase to approximately 5,460 VPD near US 18 to 10,380 VPD north of 270th Street. Most intersections currently operate at LOS C or better with the exception of the intersection of SD11 and 271st Street, which operates at LOS E in the PM peak hour.

SD115

The SD115 study corridor begins at US 18 and continues north along the section line until it becomes South Minnesota Avenue at 271st Street. The existing typical section consists of two, 12-foot lanes and 4-foot paved shoulders. The vertical profile of the roadway is flat with some rolling terrain. There is one BNSF at-grade railroad crossing along the corridor. Current traffic volumes range from 2,035 VPD at the south end to 6,720 VPD at the north. By 2050, these are anticipated to increase to approximately 3,330 VPD near US 18 to 14,470 VPD north of 273rd Street. All intersections currently operate at LOS C or better.
